Pericard would return to Pompey unpaid

Former Portsmouth striker Vincent Pericard was answering questions from fans over social networking site Twitter earlier this evening and even showed an interest in returning to Fratton Park as a player if they needed him.

When asked if he would consider a return to football and Fratton Park, Pericard said: “I would play for free if I can help and bring some sort of value, but let’s be honest, I’d have to get fit again but nothing is impossible! Pompey can’t die!”

In regards to his retirement from football and the hurdles he had to overcome, Pericard said: “Injuries is what stopped me fulfilling my potential. This led to low confidence to poor fitness. It always start somewhere.”

Going on to answer who the best manager he played under was, Pericard said: “Harry Redknapp is still the best for me. I wished he had the England Job. He is a manager that gives you trust and makes you feel valued.”

Pericard, who spent four years at Pompey between 2002 and 2006, officially retired from football earlier on this year after falling out of love with playing the game. The French striker joined Pompey from Juventus in August 2002 initially on a loan-deal but making a permanent move the following summer.

Since retiring, the striker set-up Elite Welfare Management (EWM) – a hybrid welfare-support service dedicated to delivering a bespoke range of specialist programmes with the sole aim of maximising a player’s ability on the pitch by ensuring his wellbeing off it. In layman’s terms, EWM helps players deal with the ups and downs of being a professional footballer on and off the pitch. Working alongside ‘The Players Programme’, founded by former Manchester United player Simon Andrews, EWM also implements its programmes with the aim of empowering a player’s independence.

Referring to his predictions for Pompey next season, the 29-year-old said: “It’s hard to tell. All I know is whatever they will do, they will give 200%! The players and the fans! We gotta have faith!”

  1. Using our professional in-house team of experienced coaches, experts and former players, E.W.M. will deliver a comprehensive and bespoke service to a player throughout his career; whether required for a new signing, a current player or an academy player, we will implement our individually tailored programmes to ensure his welfare away from the field of play, allowing him to focus on improving himself on it.
