Pompey Away Day Guide: EBB Stadium (Aldershot Town)

Pompey travel to local League Two outfit Aldershot for their first trip to the Recreation Ground since April 1980, with Michael Appleton’s team of youngsters and trialists looking for a first win of the pre-season campaign.

Pre-match warm-up

If you’re looking for pre-match drinking then look no further than the Phoenix Bar and Cafe which has been allocated exclusively to the Pompey fans.

Usually a bar that invites both home and away fans for games at Aldershot, the Phoenix Bar & Cafe will be dedicated to the traveling Blue Army so no need to worry about finding an outside pub.

If you are looking for somewhere outside of the ground to whet your whistle, The Football Ground Guide recommends heading to either ‘the Beehive’ or ‘the Crimea’ which are only short walks from the ground.

Travel

If you are travelling by train, Aldershot station is less than a ten minute walk away from the ground. Upon leaving the train station, go down the station approach and turn right into Windsor Way. Continue down Windsor Way passing the Holy Trinity Church on your left. The road bends to the left and leads into Victoria Road. Turn right along Victoria Road and at the bottom of the road you will see floodlights of the Recreation Ground in front of you.

If you’re making the short drive, then drivers are reminded by Aldershot that no supporters home or away should park in local industrial estates as most have a no parking policy and vehicles parking without permission may have their vehicles locked in or clamped.

Half-time Refreshments

You can get a pie for around £2.50 (pretty cheap for football) at the Rec, whilst Tea/Coffee is only £1.

No news on how much beer is inside the ground or what they have on offer unfortunately!

Programmes

The official match-day programme ‘The Shots’, can be bought for £3 outside the ground.

Your Home For The Next Ninety Minutes

Pompey will be housed in the South Stand as well as the usual uncovered away area of the Recreation Ground. The Shots have kindly opened up the South Stand (usually housing home fans) to away fans, allowing Pompey to take an allocation of 2,000 fans for the local friendly trip.

It is definitely a classic football ground and you won’t be disappointed!

Travelling fans are also reminded that the Away turnstiles (11 and 12) are not at the front of the ground but via the park entrance accessed off Redan Road (Hill). The walk from the High Street entrance to the Away turnstiles can take 10 minute so allow plenty of time, and factor in potential queues due to there being only two turnstiles (there are plans to increase this to three). The only access to away supporters permitted via the front entrance is for disabled supporters who now have two dedicated wheelchair bays in the away seats. Please enquire with the club for more information

Tickets

Tickets are only available to buy from Aldershot, and can be purchased by calling the Aldershot Town ticket office on 01252 320211 between 9.30am and 4.30pm on weekdays.

Finally…
